Traveling with Watercolors

                         Supplies:

One 14 x 15 colored paper*

One 14 by 16 paper in complimentary color*

Two 6 by 12 inch pieces of cardboard

One yard ribbon in complimentary color

Large acid-free glue stick

Ten 1-inch Velcro squares

Pencil and Ruler

One box Watercolor paints and brush with hinged lid (6 by 9 or less)

One Sketch Pad (6 by 9, less than 1-1/4 inches thick)

* Handmade paper or light card stock works well. It may be found in art supplies stores.

  1. Gather the supplies to make a Watercolor Travel Folder.
  2. Place 14 by 16 handmade paper right side down, lightly draw 1-inch border on all sides.
  3. Glue two cardboard pieces firmly down, lining up top, bottom and outside edges of drawn border. (There should be about 2 inches left in the center for flexible spine)
  4. Generously glue upper and lower border and fold down over cardboard.
  5. Glue and fold left side and right side border, tucking corners like a package.
  6. Lay ribbon across the center with equal amounts extending on each side.
  7. Cut complimentary paper to 10-1/2 by 13-1/2. Glue down over ribbon and cardboard firmly. Let dry for 25 minutes.
  8. Connect 5 adhesive Velcro squares to back of watercolor box. Remove backing. Stick to folder along cardboard. Make sure it does not cover spine.
  9. Connect 5 adhesive squares to sketch pad and attach on other side.

10. Tie Folder closed and pack with care for travel.
