Structure
Sometimes I get myself into trouble. I often want to put the structure together, before letting a project, a trip, an idea unfold in its own time. I want to get to the bottom line, see the end product, and know where I am going. I rush the unfolding of things. Structure can be a beautiful form. It gives shape to the unseen and allows it’s viewer to see the elusive idea, the profound format and the beautiful container. Structure gives things their form, outlines the details and highlights what is a part of something and what is not. I had the opportunity to build a bridge in a painting project. A bridge has its platform, its highway and beams to support, its arches and spans. The structure of a bridge seems to allow us to pass from one land form to another, from what appears as a known to an unknown, from someplace solid to an opening across to someplace new. The structure of a bridge allows for passage to the next inspiration. Sometimes I get myself into trouble when I rush the structure before the inspiration has unfolded. I shortcut the process and miss the gentle unfolding of the bridge to the new place. A bridge beckons, it’s height off the water takes you to a new place, its span opens you up to new adventure. I hope to get myself into less trouble and enjoy the walk across the bridge, the unfolding of the new span and adventure and add the structure as I gaze back, after the bridge has been crossed. MK
