1. Find a
fabric you like a lot that has different colors (focus fabric). Buy a
half-yard.
2. Find four or
five other fabrics that look good with it – either match the color or the
theme of the focus fabric. Buy up to a half-yard of each.
3. Cut the
fabric into strips 2"-6" wide across the width of the fabric (strips will be
about 42" long).
4. Arrange the
strips side by side so they look good to you. Sew them together to make a
quilt top.
5. Stitch together
the quilt top, batting, and backing fabric to make a "quilt sandwich."
6. Trim the edges of the quilt sandwich and sew on a binding made of a
complementary fabric.
7. Sew a label onto the back with your name, the name of the quilt, the
date you finished it, and anything else you’d like to say.
