                                 "Color Flows Through the Desert"

                Making a Fence Rail Quilt

                Fabric Needed: 

                     1/2 yard each of 3 fabrics.
                     1/4 yard for inner border
                     45 x 60 or Crib size for batting
                     1 3/4 yards for backing fabric
                     3/8 yards for binding
                     1 1/4 yards for outer border

                     Steps:

                     1,  Purchase fabric.

                     2.  Cut 2 1/2 inch strips from the 1/2 yard of each of the 3 fabrics.

                     3.  Using the 3 fabrics sew strips of the 2 1/2 inches to make a sets.

                     4.  Cut into blocks.

                     5.  Lay out your blocks and sew into rows.

                     6.  Add inner border.

                     7.  Sew outer border.

                     8.  Sew the quilt top to the batting and backing fabric

                     9.  Sew on the binding.                         

                   10.  Sign and name your quilt.

                    This variation of the Fence Rail Quilt was made by sewing individual 2 1/2 by 6 1/2 inch lengths of fabric together instead of the strip piecing method.
