New Beginnings

I had coffee with my sister over the weekend and she reminded me that we have the opportunity to start fresh, begin anew at any moment. She said she felt things had gotten off to a bit of a rough start at home in the New Year. She hoped to do something to remind herself and her family that they could start fresh and begin anew at any time. She was inspired to plan a “New Beginnings Brunch” for her family. She gathered the ingredients for Mimosa’s, set a nice table, made a wonderful brunch, and invited her family to gather on Sunday morning.

She started by showing her family how to making Mimosa’s. While they sipped this special drink she told them that she wanted to remember that she, her husband and family could start over at any moment. She began with asking her family for “forgiveness” about the tough things; asking for their ideas about “hope” and what they wish for in this New Beginning. They set a framework to begin again in the New Year, sealing their commitment to New Beginnings with a toast!

What she shared rang true to me too. I realized there were things I wished I’d done differently in the New Year. I invited my family to a New Beginnings Dinner on a night that worked for everybody. We started with making Mimosa’s and I talked about wanting to be able to stop when something felt off and start again. It was good to say what I wished I’d done differently and what I hoped for in the New Year. It was fun toasting to “New Beginnings” and realizing I could forgive myself and be gentler with myself and others by starting anew.

We have the opportunity to start anew each and every time.  MK
