Making a Lei

                                                          

                                                                      

                                                        

   Make a flower lei.  Thread flowers onto linen cord or dental floss. End with double knot.

   Make a flower bracelet.  Cut 10 strands of rafia for your wrist.  Tie on flowers.

    Make a flower ankle bracelet.  Cut 10 strands of rafia for you ankle.  Tie on flowers.

    Make a head piece called a haku.  Cut 10 strands of rafia the size of head.  Tie on flowers.

                                      

    Each flower piece above can be made on plastic coated wire obtained from a florist.

    Ribbon can be added to each piece of you like. 

    Hawaiians use these as welcoming gifts or as part of their costume when they dance the hula.
